Conservation charity with a veterinary base

A NEW animal conservation charity was launched at London Zoo on November 15. Wildlife Vets International (WVI) is supported by the International Zoo Veterinary Group, based in Keighley, West Yorkshire, and the Zoological Society of London, and has been established to provide expert veterinary care and support for conservation programmes assisting rare and endangered animals. It will also educate and train people who live and work in the animals' natural habitats, to provide them with extra skills and to contribute to sustainable, long-term solutions for conserving endangered species. The charity says it can call on a reserve of specialist veterinary surgeons to support its projects and that it has access to the expertise of some of the best wildlife vets in the world. Projects with which it is already involved include the Jambi tiger project in Sumatra, the echo parakeet recovery programme in Mauritius, and the drill monkey rehabilitation and release project in Nigeria.Go
