Frequently Asked Questions
about Individual (Non-Member) Subscriptions

  1. What is my user name and password? May I share my user name and password with friends, or is use limited solely to me?

To obtain full text of articles, you must activate your subscription. This involves setting up your own user name and password. You are the only one licensed to use this user name and password.

  2. What if I forget my password?

We have instructions for what to do if you forget your user name or your password. Click here for more details.

  3. Why should I get an Individual (Non-Member) subscription?

Individual (Non-Member) Subscribers have access to the full text of all articles appearing in the journal(s), including the archives.
    [Subscribe] [Cost]

Alternatively, you may wish to apply for BVA membership. For more details about the BVA and the benefits of BVA membership, click here

To join the BVA online, click here [Cost]

  4. Will I still be able to get the paper version? And for how long?

Yes, subscribers will continue to be able to receive the paper version for the foreseeable future.

  5. Who is eligible for an Individual (Non-Member) Subscription and BVA membership?

Individual (non-member) subscriptions are available to individuals, providing them with a paper and electronic version of the journal.

Membership of the British Veterinary Association is open to all members of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), to those on the Supplementary Veterinary Register, to students studying for a degree entitling them to membership of the RCVS and to holders of EU veterinary qualifications which would entitle the holder to membership of the RCVS under the terms of the EU Professional Directives.

BVA members receive the print versions of The Veterinary Record and In Practice; you will also have access to both journals online, including the journal archives. If you would like further information about becoming a BVA member and the additional benefits it can offer you, see the BVA website or contact membership{at}bva.co.uk.

  6. How can I access The Veterinary Record and/or In Practice online if I am not an BVA member and I don't have access through an institutional subscription?

You may wish to apply for BVA membership or you may wish to purchase an Individual (Non-Member) print subscription which provides access to the electronic version. Without a subscription you have access to tables of contents, abstracts, and full text searching (without full text viewing) at no cost and without having to register.

  7. How do I become a member of BVA?
